Thank you for viewing EDNA Watershed data using Google Earth! Please refer to these instructions if you have
difficulty using this product. If you need assistance using Google Earth, please refer to refer to Google's
Help Center for assistance.
Watershed Characteristics
These data contain watershed maps, images, legends, and statistics derived from the EDNA Watershed Characteristic Model. To view watershed
characteristics, click the placemark in the middle of the watershed, or the “Watershed Characteristics” link in the “Places” menu within Google
Earth. A dialog box will appear, displaying land cover characteristics. Additional characteristics can be viewed by clicking links on the left side of
the window. Additional characteristics will open in your default internet browser, with the exception of the "Other US Watersheds" link (see below).
Watershed Layers
Watershed layers are available in an interactive format that overlay Google Earth imagery. The layers include the watershed boundary,
elevation, land cover, population, and streams. Select one of the boxes to view a layer or expand the "+" sign to see additional options. For example, expand the
Population "+" sign to see that both 1990 and 2000 data can be viewed. Toggle back and forth between the layers to see the population change.
Also, select any layer and "look through" it by sliding the transparency slider at the bottom of the "Places" window.
Each layer contains a legend explaining the colors or symbology. The layers and legends can be turned on or off by selecting the checkbox in front
of its name in the "Places" window.
The source of the data and a link to the organization's website can be found by clicking on the underlined layer name in the "Places" window.
Other US Watersheds
The “Other US Watersheds” link is located on the table that appears after clicking on the "Watershed Characteristics" placemark in any
of the individual watershed files. It is another Google Earth overlay containing EDNA-derived boundaries and markers for 77 major US watersheds.
Click on any of the placemarks to see if data is available for that watershed.
Important Notes
Before navigating other watersheds, you may need to turn off certain layers in the current watershed. Otherwise, some images may overlap one
another within Google Earth.
All datasets are delivered in ".kmz" file format, and whenever possible the images are included with the file. It is recommended that the data be
saved immediately if added to "My Places" so the images will not be lost. The dataset can easily be downloaded again by clicking the link on the
EDNA Watersheds page.
Some of the datasets are very large due to the size of the watershed area. Please be patient and allow time for the files to download, and for
certain layers to appear in Google Earth.
This data was designed for viewing in Google Earth version 4.0.2722.
